Happy Homemaker Monday 5th January 2026

Happy New Year everyone! Hope that 2026 holds lots of blessings and good things for you.

We had a very relaxing Christmas, eventually. I was sick for so long and ended up with a bad sinus infection and had some awful antibiotics. But I'm pretty much over it now, although I do still wake up with a very husky voice LOL. I was finally in the land of the living by 23rd of December and then it was manic trying to get everything ready for Christmas!!

Anyway, onto Happy Homemaker Monday.

The weather

We've had snow! I love snow, except when I have to drive on it.

It's currently -5 C and quite clear. Been very chilly all day. It's evening now. We had a beautiful sunset.

Right now I am

Sitting writing this, thinking about what to have for tea (evening meal). L has just offered to make us a chilli, so that sounds good!

Thinking and pondering

About the weather and whether I'll be able to get to work tomorrow. We are quite hilly round here and my car isn't good for all weather driving. Various forecasts have rain, a bit of snow, a lot of snow or nothing, so who knows??

How I am feeling

OK, a bit tired today as I was up at 6 am for work after a Christmas break. Need to get back into the swing of things.

On the breakfast & lunch plate

For breakfast I had strawberries, walnuts, sultanas, oats and yogurt. For lunch I had leftover goats cheese and leek risotto.

What I am wearing

Many layers of clothes! Dungarees and a green cardigan.

On my reading pile

  • The Confident Woman - Joyce Meyer
  • The Dose Effect - TJ Power
  • The Haunting of Hill House - Shirley Jackson
  • I've started a year through the Bible plan. I'm up to Genesis 18.

On my TV this week

  • Currently L is watching old 80s bands on YouTube
  • Before that we were watching a YouTube channel called Outdoor boys. Does sort of bushcraft type videos. In this video he was kayaking in a very cold place, before that he was building a shelter in the snow and building a giant fire. Fascinating.
  • We completed the Stranger Things series, soooo good. One of my favourites.

Something fun to share

The Outdoor Boys channel I just mentioned: https://www.youtube.com/@OutdoorBoys Well worth a visit!

Looking around the house

I've just cleaned the kitchen. I need to declutter the living room and my bedroom. Things got a bit chaotic with me being ill for so long and then Christmas.

To do list for the week

  • Clean throughout house now that decorations are down
  • Get some exercise back into my life

From the camera

Not the best picture because I took it with my phone, but the moon had a rainbow halo around it a couple of nights ago. So beautiful.

Devotional, prayers, Bible verses

From the Glorify app today:

Devotional on Isaiah 41:8-10

"Within two verses, God speaks ten identity-shaping truths over His insecure and wayward people:

I have chosen you.
I have taken you in.
I have called you.
I have told you, "You are my servant, serving on my side."
I have not rejected you.
I am with you.
I am your God.
I will strengthen you.
I will help you.
I will uphold you.

... notice how these statements stretch across time, past, present and future...It's a personal reminder: God holds your story, yesterday, today and every tomorrow. Nothing is outside of his power."

Have a beautiful day and week!

Sarah

I'm sorry you were so sick! But, thankful you were feeling well enough to celebrate.
We had lots of snow between Christmas and New Years. This week is to be a little warmer so we may lose some. It's pretty to look at but no fun to drive in!
Those are such beautiful verses that you shared.

Happy 2026 my Friend!
So glad you're feeling better. The holidays is a terrible time to be sick. Your weather is so similar to my northwoods and can be rainy and slushy one minute and snow and ice the next. Never fun!
I watched the first few seasons of Strange Things with my daughter, but then she went off to college and finished it there. I may need to start back from the beginning and get Hubby to join me watching them. I love all the retro music and moments!
Love your inspirational so much. Wishing you a healthy, peaceful and joyous new year ahead. 🌟💗

Hello! I am glad to hear you are feeling better. I have actually heard that people are indeed getting sinus infections after this awful sickness. We have no snow here in Maryland, but it has been cold! I wish you a cozy week and a very Happy and Blessed New Year!

Hi Carrie, thanks and happy 2026 to you too! I love Stranger Things and I think a big part of it is the 80s nostalgia haha. Have a lovely week!

I'm so sorry you have been sick! But I am glad the sickness left before the holidays! I feel for anyone who has to drive in snow- growing up in Western NC I had my fair share of those days! Now we are in Eastern NC and if on the rare occasion we actually get snow, nobody goes anywhere and everything shuts down. Much nicer snow days lol! I hope you have a good week getting back into the swing of things!

Hi Stacy, thank you! :) We get snow every year but it's not constant fortunately and usually doesn't last more than a few days. Hope you have a great week too!

Oh Sarah, I am so sorry you also had the holiday "crud", we called it here. I was also sick throughout the Christmas holidays and had to really work hard to get everything ready on time. I managed to get through it, but then my hubby got sick too. We are just now finally feeling almost like "normal" again and went back to church this past Sunday. I still haven't taken down our tree or other decorations as we have been so busy with other things this week. Hopefully tomorrow will be the day to get that job done. I have a dental appt. today, which I am NOT looking forward to. I enjoyed your post. We don't get snow here where I live, so I always enjoy seeing other people's snow, but am glad we don't have to deal with it anymore. We served "our time" in the northern part of the country and dealt with a LOT of snow for many years, so we are fine with not having now! I hope you have a lovely week, and take care and stay well!!
