When we first moved in, in November 2001, our house needed new roof, rewiring, new windows and doors, a boiler, central heating. There was no kitchen fitted either. There was a lot of work needed doing, and still does. When we decorated the kitchen/diner and papered the walls the edges just would NOT stop curling. We tried all kinds of glues and devices. Well, because there was so much glue, every bit of dust and cat hair in the air stuck to it - besides the fact it looked awful because the edges wouldn't stick down. I have put up with this state of affairs until this year.
We finally got enough money together and bought paper, paint and some new curtains for the diner end. Because hubs is so busy with work and church we weren't sure when we would do it all, but we started the stripping of paper and the rubbing down of woodwork.
Hub's Dad took pity on us and asked us if we wanted his neighbour, who is a decorator, to come and get it all finished in time for Christmas! What a blessing!
So it's nearly finished. I thought I'd give you a snapshot of the wallpaper and the new curtains. It's a bit different, but I love the colours.

Nice colors. Would love to see the finished room. When I moved into my house, I knew the exact color I wanted on the walls in the kitchen. That was until I saw it on the walls and then I wanted it gone. My son said that was only one coat. It needed two coats. After two coats of that horrible color I refused to leave the house until the color was changed. I went to the nearest store I could buy paint and bought some. The kitchen had four coats of paint in one day. Things have changed in that kitchen in over 30 years but I will never forget our first try at decorating my kitchen.
Oh I LOVE it! So cheery and fresh looking. And the curtains go *so well* with the paper. I'm excited to see the end result. :o)

Joyce things often don't look in reality as we think they will. I'm not keen on the colours we chose for our living room walls. They don't look how I imagined they would. They're not terrible, but I would like to change them at some point.

Oooo, these are really nice. I'm sure it will look great and hope you can show some photos when it's finished. We too moved into our home in 2001 and it's still a work in progress! It's great to do tho' isn't it. And what a blessing from your father-in-law!

Our house has been a work in progress since we moved in. Lol, sometimes I wish that we had moved into a house that was all fixed up already. But it's nice to put our own stamp on a place. One day it'll be all done...I hope! :)
